Alexandra Levits Water Cooler Wisdom Salary Trends for Project Managers and the Like

Alexandra Levit's Water Cooler Wisdom Salary Trends for Project Managers and the Like PMI’s 2015 Earning Power survey reveals that current project management compensation varies widely. The Project Management Institute’s 2015 Earning Power report, which is based on a survey of more than 26,000 respondents in 34 countries, detailed 12-month salary trends among 15 demographic variables and shares important insights on roles ranging from entry-level project managers to senior executives. Overall, most participants (72 percent) reported that their total compensation (including salary, bonus and other forms of compensation) increased over the 12 months prior to completing the salary survey, with over one-fourth (27 percent) of respondents reporting increases of at least 5 percent over that time period. The median annualized salary recorded in this survey, across all countries, roles and experience levels was $81,000 (USD). Approximately 75 percent of respondents earned at least $53,689 (USD), and the upper 25 percent earned at least $110,000 (USD). However, median salary varied greatly depending on a number of key demographic factors including the following: Country of employment Number of years of experience in project management PMP ® Certification Status Position Average size of projects managed, including average project budget and average project team size Country of Employment The median salary for someone in the project management profession varied widely from country to country. The country with the highest median salary ($130,000) was Switzerland, whereas the country with the lowest median salary was Egypt ($19,602). Industries Project managers in thepharmaceutical, agricultural, mining, consultation, aerospace, engineering, utility, governmentandITindustries were among the highest paid. Experience Although the total number of years of work experience did not appear to impact salary, the stronger correlation was with the number of years a person had worked within the project management profession. The most dramatic increase was seen in Singapore. The median salary ranged from $47,657 for those just starting out in the project management field to $131,972 for those who had been in the field for 20 years or more. This represented an increase of 177 percent from low to high experience in the field. The difference in median salary was not nearly as striking in China, for example. For those with less than three years’ experience, the median salary was $21,073 compared with $29,178 for those practicing project management for 20 years or more. Certification The majority of participants in this study earned the PMP ® certification. Those with the certification were paid more than those without in virtually all of the countries. The largest differential was noted in South Africa where PMP holders had a median salary 47 percent higher than those without the certification. In nearly all countries, median salary steadily increased with PMP tenure. In Taiwan and Saudi Arabia, the median salary of those who had been certified for 10 or more years was more than double those who had been certified for 5 years or fewer. Fathers Day Ideas Ditch the Ties and Socks!

Fathers Day Ideas Ditch the Ties and Socks! Fathers Day  is here again! Held  on the 3rd week of June, its an event that isnt celebrated as largely as other occasions. Do you notice how theres less fuss about it than mothers day? Thats a little unfair! Then again, dads are quite hard to please!  If you havent gotten him anything yet, I dont blame you. As much as we love these wonderful men, buying a gift for your dad or your husband is HARD! So here are some ideas for gifts in case you need inspiration. Lets try to get more creative than going straight to the ties and socks this year, shall we?   For the Age Conscious While men are not as dreadful of age as women are, a lot of men are concerned with their youth, vitality, and looks. If your man is one to put in an extra minute or two into his post-bath ritual, get him a  mens face care  product that will keep his skin healthy.  Gifting  him top of the line  facial care products is definitely a good idea as he probably sticks to what he already uses, and this is a chance for him to try something new. Do your research and find one that comes highly recommended by other men and will suit his needs best. Even if he is not one to like putting things on his face, you will never know what he might allow himself to try on his own time. He may not respond well to a spa treatment, but if he is able to do it himself he might give it a go! For the Cool and Trendy   Gadgets are to guys as shoes are to girls. It appeals to their thirst for tinkering and knowing how things work. You dont need to get him something super expensive there are many new and affordable gadgets out there that will tickle their fancy. My dad got super psyched when I bought him a portable dehumidifier that can be attached to a water bottle. Its simple enough to not cost much and intriguing enough for him to brag about. To find the right gadget for your dad, browse  through online stores to get the most variety of items to choose from. For the  Fashionable  A man can never have enough socks, they say but that doesnt mean you can get away with just getting him another pair. If you are going to get him another one, why not toss in something a little extra your time. Fashionable dads are known to have the rule Dont buy my tie. So take him out shopping. Find out beforehand where the best mens shops are in the area and take him out for a mini-splurge. He will have an aversion  to you taking out your wallet so buy the gift certificate ahead of time to let him know its already paid for. For the Mans Man   If you are more the wine and cocktail sipping type, you may never understand a dads affinity for beer. While getting him a case of beer might be something your mom might frown upon, play to this important knowledge. Take your dad out for beers or for a big piece of steak. Whether hes the fancy or casual kind of guy, beers and/or steaks cant be a miss. Whatever you decide to get your dad or your husband, always know that the best gift is your attention and love. We are all daddys little girls deep inside. Showing him that you know this is usually half way the mark of a perfect gift. Happy fathers day to to the men of your lives! A couple of days to go, so you have lots of time! What are you getting your dad? Comment below or tweet us @mscareergirl!

A Guide to EVP Development

A Guide to EVP Development The EVP (employer value proposition)  can be the centerpiece of an effective employer brand. But what the heck is it? How do you go about developing one? What companies can we learn from? To get some answers, Ive spoken to that  other Sage of Omaha,  Maren Hogan of Red Branch Media. Have a listen to the episode below, keep reading for a transcript of our conversation and make sure you subscribe to the Employer Branding Podcast. What is an EVP? So an employer value proposition, is basically your overarching statement as to what you bring to the table as an employer to your employees. So I was recently asked a question like, Oh, what is it? Does it stand for employee value proposition or employer value proposition? And I believe the answer is both, because you really want people to understand what each person is bringing to the relationship, and what each person can anticipate getting out of the relationship. It is especially true when you really want those goals to be aligned. Do you have a step by step approach to EVP? We do have a step by step approach. I will say that there are a lot of really good models out there. Weve used models from all of the big thinkers, to help our clients when they want to develop an EVP. Because in some cases, it will be a startup. So we have to go in and talk to each of their employees. We have to talk to leadership at the company and say, Okay, what do you think the values are? Then we turn around and ask the same question of employees, What do you think the values are? So thats one approach. Another approach might be a large corporation that has existed for a very long time and is looking to move into maybe new areas. Im doing a case study around that shortly in SourceCon to say, Hey, you know, what works in the Midwest may not work on the coasts or what have you. So thats another model that we sort of follow. And then theres a third model which is to say, Okay, weve never paid very much attention to employer brand, we know we need to. We have a problem. This is usually when theres an issue within the organization, high turnover or, you know, bad reviews or whatever, and then we take a step by step. Its more of a tactical approach. We do the surveys and we do the anecdotal talks, but then we make sure to also start improving things tactically so they can see movement. Because one of the big issues when people start tackling their EVP or their employer brand, is that they dont see enough movement quickly enough, and then they abandon the project, leaving employees even more embittered and frustrated. Which companies who have good EVPs could we all learn from? A company that I feel has a good EVP is American Airlines. And I say this simply because you asked the thing about the USP, and of course, people complain about airlines all the time, and theyre always ticked off because this is late and thats late and they lost my bag. But what you can see from the employees on the inside is that they really, really feel valued, appreciate where they work. Nike is another great place that really takes care of their people, that really makes them feel valued, and focuses on really trying to bring that employer brand home. Southwest Airlines is another one. There was a kerfuffle two or three years ago where you heard about an employee being kind of ticked off at Southwest. But literally, in all the times that its been part of my presence and that Ive heard presentations from people who work there and talk to people that work there, people have been extremely happy, extraordinarily happy to go to work. So I would say that is a very excellent example. An employer brand that I think that is not at all flashy but really treats their workers right is Aldi. Its a chain of supermarkets, they also own Trader Joes, and Im sure that they also treat their Trader Joes people very wonderfully. But small things like their register workers can sit down, and theyre paid a fair and equitable wage, and theyre always willing to help. And that really does translate into when I, as a consumer, go in there, you get a really great feeling of these people are happy to be here, theyre not overworked, theyre not overburdened. I would compare and contrast that with, say, a Walmart, where it feels very different when you walk into the store. Why Careers Services Fail To Attract Students To Services

Why Careers Services Fail To Attract Students To Services In the UK, every university has a dedicated Careers Service. I am sure there is something similar in US universities too. Careers Services not only provide job advice, but they also support in learning, training and other career-related issues and activities. The trouble is, and this is from a graduates point of view, Careers Services seem to do nothing. When graduates speak to me, or send me their CVs for review, the feedback always is thanks for that, its a lot better than what my Careers Service would do. Now, I was a Careers Service rebel for my first two years at University, but then I started working for them and I could see the amount of work they actually do! The support and advice facilities they provide are quite good. So whats the problem? The image? The culture? Why Careers Services Fail To Attract? Simply put, graduates think that Careers Services do nothing to help them. Offering a 15-minute slot for CV review, or getting Barclays to do an employer presentation is not enough if these are not marketed to students the right way. Careers Services are decades behind in marketing their marketing is still a piece of paper with fancy colours and some words on it. Another reason why a majority of students shun their Careers Service is because of the image of the service. There actually are students who need help with job advice, learning, etc., but are too shy to walk up to a careers adviser and ask for help. You know, Careers Services have historically been out of touch with graduates. Image too posh. The last reason for me is the culture in Careers Services that not every student is going to use the service. This baffles me. Simply because, if I said at my workplace that my potential customer wont use the service I provide, I would be sacked! If a university has 22,000 students e nrolled, and only a maximum of 2000 use the Careers Service, then thats a disgrace. Careers Service advisers know the problem, but the same reasons of budget, time, resources and not every student will use the Careers Service always raise their head. Get a grip, students and even some graduates, need help. Strive to help every one of us and see the change in your reputation. Radical Proposals to Improve Careers Services 1. Improve Marketing to Attract Students in T-shirts and Jeans, Not Suits. Careers Services should stop taking marketing advice from people in suits based on University policies and past templates. Get a fresh new look on marketing, keep it simple, but attract students with it. Survey your students do you know what clicks for international students? And what for home students? 2. Employ Your Own Graduates Get Some Fresh Ideas Approach.  You know, technological companies and other brands offer jobs to people who give them real feedback and ideas of how they will help the organisation improve. If Microsoft wants to enter the youth market, or market an XboX, they dont put the face of Bill Gates on it, with all the experience he has he is not fit to enter the youth market. Not because of age but because of the difference in culture and ethics of young people today. Careers Services need to recruit a lot more young people, recruit your own graduates, they will tell you what works and what doesnt. If you dont recruit your own graduates, how do you expect some other company to? Somebody has to take a chance and give the first break to graduates. You cant just keep employing people with more experience, just because you can tick that box on the HR form. Careers Services need to get more young graduates on-board. I think they have enough people who have roast t urkey and red wine for dinner. Its time to put the pasty eaters on-board. Time to get back in touch with graduates. Please Improve Careers Services For Students If the two points mentioned in the proposals are taken on-board, Careers Services will definitely be used by more students, but there are so many other points that can be taken on-board, and I am sure every Careers Service is striving to do that. But please, do it soon. And please, dont tell me everything is rosy. I have used a Careers Service, worked in a Careers Service, and speak to a lot of graduates, entrepreneurs and even industry personnel who have good and bad things to say about Careers people at universities. Ive just made an effort to write it down. Are you a student who has some experience to share about your Careers Service? Or are you Careers Advisor and have something to point out to me? Drop your comments below I look forward to what you have to say! 5 Ways Exercise Can Boost Your Productivity

5 Ways Exercise Can Boost Your Productivity Exercise is one of the most important things you can do throughout your day. If you are feeling sluggish, it is one of the best things you can do to increase productivity. It can help with cognitive function, energy, and even lower disease risk. Through this, we hope to help you use exercise as a way to boost productivity and to lead a more healthy life in the process.Photo Credit â€" Pexels.com1. Exercise Helps You Stay AlertAccording to Dr. John Ratey, author of Spark â€" The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain, exercise can help you remain focused, and even increase your motivation for hours afterward. Dr. Ratey has even gone as far as to compare a short workout to known ADHD medications, like Prozac and Ritalin.Likewise, a 2013 study titled The Influence of Exercise on Cognitive Abilities noted that people who were physically active were able to think more quickly than those who did not exercise, and were even able to reduce the cognitive reducing effects of aging .2. Exercise Boosts Your EnergyevalResearch from the University of Georgia and elsewhere has shown that despite sounding counterintuitive, daily exercise can actually reduce fatigue by up to 65%. When you are less fatigued, your productivity grows. Even short bursts of exercise, just 15 minutes, can improve productivity in the long run.Exercise is also known to transfer glucose and oxygen throughout your body to be absorbed by the cells, which increases your energy. This is why many of the world’s most productive people go out for a morning run before starting their day.3. Exercise Improves Brain FunctionAccording to Hiedi Godman, Executive Director of Harvard Health Letter from Harvard School of Medicine: Exercise can reduce or eliminate brain fog. It also helps increase memory, and improve thinking skills. It is thought that the blood pumping during aerobic exercise increases the size of the hippocampus Also, increasing endurance in exercise can train your brain to push through u ncomfortable situations, allowing you to have more motivation and drive to finish a project or start up a new one. This helps you through sheer discipline and can be very beneficial in the workplace. The Most Effective Way To ExerciseAccording to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, we should be exercising for at least 75 minutes a day. Sadly, most people don’t even meet this minimum. Despite all of the benefits one can get from exercising, they often come up with excuses as to why they can’t exercise for that day.A survey of exercise experts were asked what their clients used as excuses for not exercising, and 62% said they did not have enough time. For those who claim not to have time, we highly suggest HIIT, or High Intensity Interval Training, exercises. These exercises don’t take up much time, and require full effort. We suggest the use of both a rowing machine and a treadmill for these exercises. If you are just starting out on a rowing machine, it might be be st to do 5 to 10 separate intervals of 250 meters with a break in between each one. This helps increase cardio with little effort on the joints.evalOn a treadmill, sprint for a good 30 seconds, with a 1 minute rest period in between. It is best to keep moving during the rest periods to prevent cramping. Doing this will allow you to do over an hour of cardio in just 20 minutes, we are sure you have enough time in your day for 20 minutes. If you do HIIT workouts more often, not only will you save time, and therefore can be more productive, but it will also help you be mentally more productive in the long run. And who doesn’t want to be more productive throughout their day?

Guidelines For Writing Amy Resume Writing

Guidelines For Writing Amy Resume WritingAmy resume writing is a requirement in the application process. When you send out your resume, there are certain aspects you should consider, which will help you in writing a great resume. In fact, there are certain guidelines that you should follow when making a great resume. There are also some tips that can be applied in order to make a great resume. The first step when making a resume is to write a cover letter, which is similar to a letter of application. The cover letter should always include details about yourself and all relevant information that is necessary for you to get accepted in the program. Try to remember to avoid copying from the other applicants. Although it may be tempting, try to add your own character to the letter, as if you are reading it for the first time. Of course, do not use the same wording as the other applicants, but try to make it your own.Always have a summary of your employment history. It will give you an ide a of how long you have been working in the field. Keep a note of all the jobs you have held in order to have a concise account of your work experience. If you think that this is already provided by your past employer, then make sure to mention this, as it will be a major factor in the committee's decision to hire you. Also, look at your CV and highlight your achievements. You must be able to present yourself as a person that has potential. Your resume is meant to give an overview of your skills and abilities, so do not talk about how good you are at soccer, but talk about what you have learned and used to be successful. Always keep in mind that you should make yourself stand out from the crowd. A single page is all that is needed to represent your whole career.Although there is no law against it, you should always seek the help of a career counselor or a personal coach when you want to improve your skills and knowledge. People who want to be hired will be looking for these qualities. For you to succeed, you need to know what your strengths and weaknesses are. In addition, you should be able to use the many resources available in the field.During the application process, a pre-interview letter is usually written to showcase your qualities and achievements. Although this letter can only be used to summarize your skills and capabilities, this letter will also be helpful in making your application stand out. A pre-interview letter can help you in getting a better read on the committee members. In addition, this letter will be used as a basis for your resume. As far as the information needed for your application, make sure that the most important information is clearly stated, such as your academic records, employment history, and what you intend to achieve after graduation. Your cover letter should be brief and informative. You should also ensure that the information you provide is accurate. When submitting your application, it is best to be as detailed as possible, which is why a letter of intent is also very helpful.Making your resume stand out is not that difficult, but in order to do it right, you need to know what to put in it. Also, make sure that you follow all the guidelines. Avoid plagiarism and you will be on your way to getting a job. Try to avoid improper formatting, so that it will be easier for you to write your resume.
